Microsoft Copilot at Work
Get reliable, safe, measurable value from Copilot in Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Copilot Chat
Microsoft Copilot at Work from the Enterprise Technology Association (ETA) teaches you to get reliable, safe, measurable value from Microsoft Copilot in the apps where most work happens: Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Copilot Chat. You'll learn how Copilot uses your work data and permissions, brief it with ETA's six-part brief, check what it produces, protect sensitive data, and measure time saved honestly. Every lesson applies ETA's ADAPT framework (Assess, Direct, Assure, Protect, Tune), and agents are placed on the ETA Agent Autonomy Ladder.
Finishing the course, including a capstone reviewed by an ETA reviewer, earns the ETA Specialist credential: ETA Specialist: Microsoft Copilot.
What you'll learn
- How Copilot grounds answers in your Microsoft 365 data, what it can and can't see, and how licensed Copilot differs from Copilot Chat
- How to respond to oversharing and verify, rather than assume, the data protections that apply to you
- Action-focused email summaries and replies that promise only what you've decided
- Using Copilot before, during and after Teams meetings, when not to transcribe, and how to verify recaps
- Drafting in Word from sources you choose, with a claim check
- Analysis in Excel you can check, using a six-step number check
- Building PowerPoint decks from documents, storyline first
- Reusable prompts, prompt cards and a team prompt library
- Copilot agents at the right rung of the Autonomy Ladder, and what to ask IT before building or sharing one
- Measuring net time saved and quality honestly, and assembling a team Copilot playbook
Who it's for
Employees and team leads whose organization has Microsoft Copilot (the paid work license) or is piloting it, and people who have only Copilot Chat. No technical background is needed. The prerequisite is Level 1: Foundations of the ETA Certified AI Empowered Professional, or equivalent experience with ADAPT, the six-part brief and the ETA Agent Autonomy Ladder.
How it works
Four modules with hands-on exercises in Copilot, each with a fallback for people who have only Copilot Chat or another approved assistant. Microsoft changes Copilot's names, menus and features often, so lessons teach durable skills, and one dated lesson, Rules and tools snapshot (November 2026), holds current specifics with links to Microsoft's documentation. Each module ends with a knowledge check, and the course ends with a capstone (a Copilot playbook for one real recurring workflow on your team) and a final assessment that includes your capstone summary, graded by an ETA reviewer. This is a specialist credential, separate from the levels of the ETA Certified AI Empowered Professional.
